Small Treadmill- Big Savings

Tiny homes are a Big hit these days. People have realized that too much space requires too much unnecessary maintenance and adds to the stress of the hectic life we all live at these modern times. The problem is that in giving up the extra space, you have to say farewell to some other commodities as well.

What to Consider When Choosing 5 Best Small Treadmills for under 500$

Shopping for a small treadmill is not a small endeavor at all but rather a big adventure. You have to be on a look-out for a couple of must-have features as to make sure that you are going to end up with the best small treadmill model you can find at this price range. Here is what you should ask yourself:

best-small-treadmill

1. Is it small? Is it compact?

I’ll start the answer with a question: What are the dimensions YOU need? It is really important to measure the space you have available at your home, or otherwise, you can end up with the smallest treadmill at the store that cannot fit into the space you have set aside for it.

Besides that, you should also try out a treadmill and make sure that you can use it comfortably without shortening your stride or narrowing your normal stance. The average treadmills are usually 28 inches wide and 64 inches long- do not go much under this measures.

Keep in mind that small and compact are not synonyms. Compact treadmills are not necessarily small but can, for example, be folded-up as to save space. The great thing is that such treadmills can be put away in a closet or under your bed and therefore hidden when needed.

2. How strong the treadmill’s motor is?

One thing you should not compromise on is the strength of the treadmill motor. It is the heart of this fitness machine, and the quality of the treadmill is directly dependent on it. If the motor is powerful, the treadmill will perform well and last long.

My advice, based on the consultations with the experts in this area, is to opt for the motor with at least 2.0 continuous-duty horsepower which stands for the capability of the motor to sustain long periods of work. If the horsepower is lower, the treadmill might not last through a long workout or be able to support your body weight.

3. What tech options does the treadmill have?

Some normal options for an average-quality treadmill are a calorie counter which helps you keep track of the number of the calories you have burnt, and a heart-rate monitor that alerts you when to slow down.

For all the millenniums among you, it is good to know that tech options can include the Internet connectivity as well as MP3 player plugins for your entertainment during the workout. And do not be quick to judge these features as an unnecessary luxury since they can help get through tiresome and monotonous training with less stress and more enjoyment.

4. Can the treadmill keep up with your progress?

Believe it or not, you can outgrow your treadmill, not in height though but rather in the fitness capability. It is therefore important to choose a treadmill that allows you to increase the incline or the grade for at least 10 percent. In this way, you will be able to use your treadmill and feel challenged longer.

5. Does the treadmill come with a warranty? Is it made by a renowned company?

As with most things you can buy, the warranty period of the treadmill can tell you a lot about its quality and life-expectancy. The best small treadmill should have at least 3–year warranty as fixing it can be very costly.

Choosing a treadmill made by a company with a long tradition, good reviews, and reliable customer support is also very important. *Check out my 5 Best ProForm Treadmill reviews!

Sunny Health and Fitness SF-T4400 is a budget-friendly treadmill packed with convenient features for successful cardio or weight loss training. Buying this treadmill would not mean compromising on quality as it features a strong 2.20 HP motor that will not overheat during the long workout sessions and all the essential tech options that will make your training a success.

This treadmill is 62 inches long and 27 inches wide, and that does not make it super small, but the great news is that you can fold it for storage. The running area measures at 15.75″ W x 48.82″ L- a bit narrow and short, and the maximum user weight is 220 lbs.

The speed can range from 0.5 – 9 mph, and you can track that and other data such as the number of calories burned, distance covered, and time elapsed on a rather large LCD screen. It can calculate your BMI, heart rate and analyze your body fat too. There are nine predefined programs and the manual mode. The incline can be altered manually.

The ProForm 6.0 RT is an entry-level treadmill for all those who are on a tight budget but still want to own a unit designed by this renowned company. It features a super-strong 2.0 horsepower motor and can develop speeds of up to 10 miles per hour. However, it is more suitable for treadmill walking workout routine than for intense running sessions due to a rather short tread deck (16 x 50).

Unlike the first reviewed treadmill, this one has an ability to set the incline with a touch of a button. The deck is well cushioned and absorbs a lot of shock created during workouts. The maximum weight limit is 300 pounds.

ProForm 6.0 RT Treadmill has a large LCD display and easy to operate control panel which displays total calories burned distance crossed and current speed. It also monitors your heart rate via the handlebars. Since it folds up vertically, you cannot hide it under the bed.

This Confidence GTR  Power Pro treadmill has a 1100W or 1.5 HP engine, which considering the low price of the unit seems quite acceptable. The warranty period is not very long (1 year) but the good news is that you can buy an extended protection plan and still have yourself a good deal.

Maximum speed this treadmill can develop is 7.5mph. The size of the unit is 52" x 25.2", and it can fold downward for storage. The wheels make it portable as well. The runway size is 43.5" x 15.75", which can be a bit short for some of you but it is a compromise you have to make when buying a small and  budget-friendly unit.

LCD display provided and the push buttons to adjust your machine on the run are easy to follow. The adjustable manual incline (3 settings) might be a bit troublesome, but a heart rate monitor, twelve built in fitness programs, and many other useful features compensate for that.

Pros

  • check
    Extremely light-weight (62 lbs)
  • check
    Wheels for easy movement
  • check

Weslo Cadence G 5.9 is a compact treadmill with an insanely affordable price and a decent 2.25 HP motor. The dimensions of this unit are 68 x 31 while the running surface measures 16 x 50 inches. The unit weighs 117 lbs and can be folded vertically for space-saving.

The maximum speed of this treadmill is 10 mph, which is quite satisfactory for an average user. It has 6 challenging workout programmes. A blue-tinted LCD shows calories burned, distance crossed, time elapsed, and current speed. A heart rate monitor is present as well. On the downside, incline can be changed only manually to two different positions.

The unit is perfect for treadmill walking workouts, but not for running due to a short track and horsepower restrictions. On the other hand, it is well cushioned and absorbs a lot of shock which is good for your knees and joints.

ProForm ZT4 is another treadmill designed by this renowned company at this quite-low price range. The 2.75 Turbo HP motor is strong and can develop a speed of up to 10 MPH, but I did notice that at high speeds the treadmill can feel a bit shaky. The unit measure at 67 x 29.5 inches while the tread belt is 50 inches long and 18 inches wide. The weight capacity is 300 Lbs.

A  large LCD Window Display comes with a compatible music port to connect your iPod (or your phone with an auxiliary cable) and listen to music through the speakers. It tracks all the usual parameters.

There are 16 Workout Apps, and the incline can be easily changed to up to 10%.  Grip comes equipped with sensors to measure your pulse and a QuickSpeed control. CoolAire Workout Fan is a great addition too.
